Straw Bale Fire Test in Boise: EarthCraft Hosts “Learn & Burn” Event June 7

Join Us for a Groundbreaking Fire Demo at The Wildland Firefighter Foundation

Date: Saturday, June 7, 2025 | Time: 9:30 AM–1:00 PM | Location: Capital
FREE | All Ages Welcome | Family-Friendly | Hands-On Learning

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, EarthCraft Design Build hosts a bold, first-of-its-kind event. This live, side-by-side burn demonstration pits conventional walls against a high-performance straw bale wall assembly.

Packed tightly, straw bales contain little oxygen, preventing flames from spreading. When finished with earthen or lime plaster, straw bale walls can outlast and outperform conventional stud walls in both thermal retention and fire resistance.

What You’ll See at the Event:

  • Live Fire Demonstration

  • 🔥 Burn tests on a Straw Bale Wall, Conventional Wall, and Conventional wall assemblies

  • 🎙️ Live Commentary by Experts

  • 🎥 Thermal Imaging & Heat Sensors

  • Hands-On Booth: Mix plaster, explore wall materials, learn the building process

  • 👷 Ask-the-Builder & Firefighter Q&A

  • 🎨 Kids’ Activities: Straw + Clay Modeling & Coloring Corner

Note: This event will include scientific monitoring, but is not a peer-reviewed academic study. It is a data-informed, visual demonstration designed for education and community awareness.
